Anti-Discrimination Policy
Primrose Elementary School is opposed to any form of discrimination.
Children will learn:
As defined by the Somers School District Code of Conduct:
“A violation of the Code of Conduct includes engaging in any conduct that endangers the safety, morals, physical or mental health or welfare of others. Such conduct includes discrimination, which includes using race, color, creed, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, sex, gender (identity and expression), sexual orientation, weight or disability to deny rights, equitable treatment or access to facilities available to others.”
Children will learn:
- That discrimination is wrong and it is based on false ideas.
- About the history of different races and cultures in our country and around the world.
- The benefits of a multicultural society.
- Discriminatory insults are comparable to personal insults and will not be tolerated.

All staff will deal with incidents involving discrimination (including prejudice and stereotyping), discriminatory harassment, and discriminatory name-calling whenever they occur.
Students are encouraged to report all incidents involving discrimination. Students can speak to any member of the staff or ask a parent to do this for them. Staff members include: Teachers, Administrators, TA’s, Lunch Monitors, and Bus Drivers and Aides. On an annual basis the entire school body will discuss the contents of the code of conduct and specifically the procedures referring to discrimination. In accordance with the handling of misbehavior in the school, some misbehaviors are considered more severe and immediately require being handled at a higher stage. In this case, certain violations will directly move to Stage 4 (in-school suspension) and stage 5 (out of school suspension) if warranted. Examples include, but are not limited to derogatory language or symbols focused on religion, race, and disability. Purpose The intent of this procedure document is to ensure everyone clearly knows the expectation that all students in our schools and will treat each other equally, irrespective of skin color, religious beliefs, culture, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender identity, weight or disability. Furthermore, all members of this school community are clear as to what incidents are identified as discriminatory and the related consequences. |
